After having an argument over sex, suspected illegal immigrant Miguel Bartolo strangled Navy police officer Christy Ayala until she passed out, then dragged her into a bay where she drowned. The murder happened outside the IP Casino in Biloxi where Bartolo had been employed on a construction job. Bartolo has been sentenced to life in prison.

Border Patrol Agent Ignacio Ramos Assaulted in Prison
Border patrol agent Ignacio Ramos was severely beaten by Spanish-speaking inmates on Saturday. Ramos was half asleep in bed when up to five other inmates ran into his cell and began hitting and kicking him while yelling, “**** la migra.” Despite his severe injuries, he may have been denied medical care for more than two days.
Ignacio Ramos along with Jose Compean are border patrol agents who are serving 11 and 12 years prison sentences for shooting and wounding a Mexican drug smuggler who was escaping across the border. Despite growing calls from Congress and the public, President Bush has so far refused to grant the two agents pardons. The drug smuggler was granted immunity for his testimony.
